LET'S BUST A MYTH
"I have melanin — I don't need sunscreen."
I hear this all the time and I get it — but here's the truth. Melanin only gives you about SPF 2- SPF 13 of natural protection (from very light skin to darker skin)—and that is not enough.
UV rays are still damaging your skin every single day, deepening dark spots, breaking down collagen, and making post-acne marks stick around longer. Sun protection isn't optional — It’s an absolute non-negotiable to obtaining any goals you and I intend to see in and out of the treatment room.
YOUR SPF MUST HAVES
SPF 30 minimum — SPF 50 if you're spending real time outside
Broad-spectrum only — protects against both UVA (aging) and UVB (burning)
Try a tinted mineral formula — zinc oxide or titanium dioxide in a tinted base = no white cast, beautiful finish
Reapply every 2 hours — yes, even on cloudy days. The sun doesn't take days off and neither should your SPF
Not sure which one is right for you? Ask me at your next appointment — I love helping my clients find their perfect match
My Recommendations
Professional Brand:
I will always recommend the brand I personally use on myself and on you in my studio. It leaves no white-cast and I vouch for them 100%. Note: They don’t pay me to promote their products. 🙂
IMAGE SKINCARE DAILY PREVENTION ULTRA DEFENSE MOISTURIZER SPF 50 - suitable for dry/sensitive skin
Store Brand:
If you are looking for a Tinted SPF with moisturizer that works on all skin tones. Pick up:
FENTY’S HYDRA VIZOR HUEZ SPF 30 - TINTED MOISTURIZER available at Sephora - It comes in multiple shades - 10 to be exact, I use #8. It works well on melanin-rich skin without leaving that ashy cast.
I use this when I’m going out and don’t want to wear makeup. I just fill in my eyebrows, wear my lipstick and I’m done.
